Since 2002, adoption of CDHPs has quickly accelerated. Currently, the vast majority of large employers now offer at least one CDHP.

Percent of Covered Employees Enrolled by Medical Plan Type
The majority of employees covered by employer-sponsored health insurance are enrolled in a PPO plan. However, enrollment in high-deductible health plans (HDHP) with an account has increased rapidly over the last decade.

Enrollment in CDHPs continues to increase. Among employers offering a CDHP, the average enrollment in CDHPs has more than tripled from 2008 to 2016.
