What Your CEO Is Reading – Workplace Wellness
The New York Times reported findings from a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association that assessed the effectiveness of a workplace wellness intervention. The study, a randomized trial led by Harvard Medical School, found that employees who participated in the wellness program reported noticeable increases in exercise and active management of their weight; however, the intervention failed to have any apparent impact on employee health outcomes, medical costs or health care utilization over an 18-month period. It also found no effect on employee performance ratings, absence and tenure with the company. Click to read more about what employers can do to increase effectiveness of wellness programs.

Health and Well-being Activity Reimbursement Programs
The purpose of this survey was to learn whether employers provide reimbursement for physical activity or well-being programs. This survey looks specifically at the types of programs that are eligible for reimbursement, total amount of reimbursement provided and eligibility requirements. Fifty-two members of the Business Group responded to this survey, although the number may vary from question to question.

Gym Membership Reimbursements and Discounted Gym Memberships
The purpose of this survey is to develop benchmarks around how large employers manage their physical activity reimbursement programs and discounted gym memberships. The survey looks specifically at types of eligible activities, reimbursement amounts, reimbursement frequency, and participant eligibility. The survey also looks at whether employers arrange for discounted rates at local gyms/fitness centers, how the arrangement is made, and average negotiated discount rates. Forty-two members of the Business Group responded to this survey.

The purpose of this survey is to learn more about how employers encourage healthy physical activity among their employees. The survey focuses on physical fitness challenges, specifically at components of the challenges, eligibility, use of fitness trackers, types of competitions and how many are run each year. Additionally, the survey looks at policies and environmental factors that support healthy behavior and contribute to the physical health of each employee. Thirty-nine members of the Business Group responded to this survey.

The focus of this survey was to look specifically at on-site fitness centers at employers’ corporate headquarters. Employers were asked about the offering of the fitness centers, how they are funded, and how they are managed. Seventy-eight members of the Business Group responded to this survey.
